Palace on Wheels is the first and one of the finest luxury trains of India, which was launched in the year 1982 by the Indian Railways in co-operation with Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation. This luxury train has exquisitely designed interiors and decor, with the influence of royal architecture that keeps the guests mesmerized. Therefore, it received the Readers’ Travel Awards, 2015, for being one of the Best Trains in the World.
Though there are half a dozen luxury trains being operated around the world, Palace on Wheels, one of the leading luxury trains in India, is the perfect source of experiencing splendor.
A royal journey through this train will take you back to the bygone era, as it has carriages, furnishings, and services that reflect royalty. Not only this, it takes you through the routes passing across the land of Maharajas. This train was used by the Maharajas, Nizams, and Royalty to travel around.
The lavish carriages of this train were used by the former Maharajas and have been renovated. These well-maintained carriages are 23 in number, and about 104 tourists can travel at a time.
Each of these coaches is named after the Rajputana states, such as Alwar, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Bundi, Dungargarh, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Kota, Kishangarh, Sirohi, and Udaipur, that match the style and taste of the Rajputs. Each of its coaches has four cabins, also known as chambers or saloons. These coaches are well-equipped with all modern amenities and Wi-Fi internet.
